Hair care : Rinsing

By Carly Crossley

How long do you spend rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner?

My challenge to you: when you think you have rinsed enough, go just 30-45 seconds longer with each.

While that silky slip you feel in the shower seems like it will add that extra softness once it's dry, the truth is, it can actually make things much worse. Not rinsing well enough can leave irritating residue on your scalp and build-up on your strands. That slick feeling in the shower will turn to a semi-sticky feeling once it starts drying. This can cause unnecessary damage from styling tools & brushes, and leave your hair feeling limp and weighted. The same product that can make it feel easier to brush through at first can actually make your hair tangle more once it's dried. It can also make the need for washing appear much sooner as well.

Next time you rinse, try challenging yourself; you can't possible OVER rinse your hair with fresh water. If you need additional help detangling your hair, consider using a LEAVE-IN spray or balm, primarily on your ends. These products are designed for this purpose and, if used correctly, shouldn't leave a residue. Plus, they often have added benefits like heat protection and more.
