Posing: Know how to move your body for each genre of modeling.

by Mistie McDonald

So since you've decided to model. You've looked at yourself and assessed your features and assets. Its time to actually set up a shoot.
For the new model it can be a daunting task to know what to do in front of a camera. But its not impossible to learn quickly.
Posing and knowing what to do with your body will not only help the photographer but help your career. We as photographers eat it up when we have a model,
we don't have to be given much direction to.
Ok well now your thinking..
"Oh this is so overwhelming where do I start"
That's easy!
The internet!
With any job you need to do your research. That goes for the modeling industry to.
The key to any modeling is movement. Don't expect the photographer to pose you.
Some will some wont.
In all truth we don't enjoy posing our models.
If you are new we don't mind because you are learning. But as a general rule we don't like it. Well unless its an uber specific pose.
Ok so now on to posing.
Each genre has a different formula.
Here is a great image to give you some idea's!
Also rule of thumb.
Don't stay in a pose longer than 3 sec's.
3 SEC'S!!! WHAT!!
Yes only 3 sec's!
Remember keep moving..
You can sway, dance, jump, flail your hair, or whatever you feel!
Be mindful of your body!
Play with expression's!
Be free!
That is the hardest thing to learn. To truly be free with your posing and just have fun.
The biggest rule is not to think about it.
Thats right!
JUST DONT THINK!!!
Enjoy lovelies!
